After more than 20 years in operation, Nguyen Thai Hoc Road in Trang Dai Ward, Dong Nai City has seriously deteriorated, becoming muddy during the rainy season and dusty in dry weather. The long-awaited upgrade has now officially begun, raising expectations for significant improvements to the urban transport infrastructure in this densely populated area.
On the morning of September 3, the People’s Committee of Trang Dai Ward, Dong Nai City, held a groundbreaking ceremony for the project to upgrade and widen Nguyen Thai Hoc Road and construct a new drainage system. The road is an important transport route connecting several residential areas and serving the daily travel and commercial activities of a large number of local residents.
The upgrade of Nguyen Thai Hoc Road officially begins after years of deterioration.
For years, local residents have referred to Nguyen Thai Hoc Road as the “road of suffering” because of its prolonged deterioration, with large potholes and extensive areas of standing water. Its narrow and damaged surface, combined with an inadequate drainage system, has caused considerable difficulties for residents, particularly during the rainy season.
The groundbreaking ceremony brought a lively atmosphere to the neighborhood. Many residents living along the road arrived early to witness a moment they had been waiting for for years.
Mr. Pham Cong Dinh, a resident of Nguyen Thai Hoc Road, said he and many other households were delighted to learn that the road would be widened and upgraded and that a drainage system would be constructed.
“Local residents have been waiting for this road to be improved for a long time. We understood that if we wanted a wider and better road, we needed to cooperate with the local authorities. Many families therefore voluntarily handed over land and removed fences and other structures to make way for the project. Now that construction has officially begun, everyone is excited and hopes the road will be completed soon,” Mr. Dinh said.
Residents present flowers to local officials in appreciation of their efforts to improve transport infrastructure.
Similarly, the family of Ms. Doan Thi Ngoc, who lives in Trang Dai Ward, has approximately 200 square meters of land within the project boundary. After learning that the project would soon be implemented, her family voluntarily removed their fence and cleared assets from the affected land to hand over the site as quickly as possible.
According to Ms. Ngoc, although removing and relocating their property caused some inconvenience, her family supported the project because they wanted the road expansion to proceed without delay.
“Residents are very happy that the road is being upgraded and widened. Everyone wants a spacious, modern road that makes travel more convenient. That is why my family, like many other households, has tried to hand over the site early so that construction can move forward quickly,” Ms. Ngoc said.
Another local resident, Mr. Phan Van Sy, said the investment would not only address immediate transportation needs but also contribute to urban improvement, create better conditions for businesses and services, and enhance the quality of life for people in the area.
Strong support from local residents has been considered one of the key factors enabling site preparation and clearance for the project to proceed smoothly.
The Nguyen Thai Hoc Road Upgrade Project has a total investment of approximately VND 70 billion and is being implemented by the People’s Committee of Trang Dai Ward. The project affects nearly 300 households.
Construction machinery and equipment have been mobilized to the site.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Mr. Le Kim Huong, Chairman of the People’s Committee of Trang Dai Ward, said contractors had been instructed to carry out construction in successive sections to minimize disruption.
Contractors are also required to ensure traffic safety, spray water daily to reduce dust, and implement measures to minimize noise, exhaust fumes, and dust affecting households along the road.
“The locality’s goal is to accelerate progress while ensuring safe and efficient construction so that the upgraded road can be completed and put into operation before the 2027 Lunar New Year,” Mr. Huong emphasized.
